Romy lives in Mairangi Bay with his wife Fritzi. He works passionately in the community for a fairer and more prosperous New Zealand. He chairs Labour’s Multicultural Sector and Filipino Branch. He is a trustee with Foundation North, a community trust which last year distributed more than $40 million to community groups in Auckland and Northland.
Romy loves the diverse communities of the North Shore, its beautiful beaches, its vitality and creative industries. As candidate in the 2017 election, he practically doubled the Labour Party vote in North Shore. He’s keen to build on that success in 2020. With your support he will represent you well in parliament.
Romy and Fritzi are passionate about children’s wellbeing, having owned and operated pre- and elementary schools in the Philippines and out-of-school care centres in Auckland. Together they work in their insurance brokering firm.
Romy volunteers extensively with diverse community groups. He served on the Auckland Catholic Diocesan Pastoral Council for five years. He was a business reporter for Stuff.co.nz and editor of NZ Engineering News and NZ Infrastructure magazines. He holds an MBA from University of Waikato and a Master of Forestry from University of the Philippines.
“We chose to live in New Zealand. We treasure the Kiwi way of life. If we all participate in the democratic process, we can make everyone’s life happier. Let’s promote opportunities for all New Zealanders. Let’s support the aspirations of our people – young and old, our workers and entrepreneurs and our diverse communities.” -- Romy Udanga
Romy’s priorities for North Shore are:
- better transport
- robust health services, including mental health
- excellent education from pre-school up
- restoring our environment and Hauraki Gulf
- opportunities for business and entrepreneurship
- a living wage for all.
